The Golfchick

That chick blabbing about anything golf related.

I just want to golf

South Dakota last week, Boston this week, NYC next week. I think I’m doing something wrong here. Now that I’m a golfer, these should be summer travel locations so I can squeeze in rounds. I mean, I have to go where the work takes me and there’s only so much schedule juggling I can do to weasel in my golfing, but come on! Brrr, damnit.

Here’s the view from my hotel room window yesterday morning.
Okay, so at least I got the big fluffly flakes I like and it didn’t snow so much that driving
was difficult. Oh, the Massholes do a good enough job of that already.
The point is, I’d rather golf than see snowflakes the size of golf balls.

I guess it’s time to get serious about finding new employment.
(If my employer is reading this, that could mean something else within the company or a new arrangement with this position if possible.)

I would love to hear any ideas if you can think of something that will allow me to golf more. Telecommuting would be ideal since I’m used to that when I’m not on the road. A local (office or road-based) situation would be next best. Minimal travel that includes golf would be next… you get the idea – I want to be home more and golf more! Little help?

  1. I know what you mean about the cold weather. Today is going to be a cold one here; 45 F right now 5am. I think the expected high today will only be 64 but there is hope soon. Saturday will be around 72 F and Sunday with a tee time at 9:25 we will see it top out at 77 F. I really enjoyed the picture.

  2. You won’t understand, but being from Wisconsin I miss the frozen winters with sub zero temps and blizzards that last for days.

I have to admit though, now that I’ve taken up golf, the winter in Houston is enjoyable. Now if I could just get used to golfing in 99+ with high humidity…

Wayne makes a good point at http://golfingzen.blogspot.com/ when he says “How would we know the good days if we never had the contrasting day?”

Winter sucks. Plain and simple. If you get to SLC bring your clubs. Are you in socal?

  4. Dave – where are you, that sounds like the weather here! Lucky duck.

Greg – sure you say you miss it. But now that you’re a golfer, the winter in Houston is more than enjoyable, it’s necessary for your addiction. Hot and humid sucks, too. I have the ideal climate here in Southern California – and I definitely appreciate it! I haven’t lived here all my life.

Media – The closest I’ve been to SLC for work is Cedar City/St. George area, but I guess SLC could still come up. And I’ll be making a Mesquite golf trip just for fun at some point. I took my dog to see family in Alpine WY a year and a half ago and we drove right through there, so it’s not out of the realm of possibilities. You ever get out this way?

where is here? I’ll be golfing in St George in the end of Feb and possibly going down to socal before after that to meet Eat.

  6. Same town as Eat. We should all play. :)

Eat is north of LA about an hour if I recall. I’m trying to work out being there for a round on either Tuesday the 28th of Feb or Thursday the 23rd… Is grouchy in that area too?

  8. I’ll be out of town on the 23rd and likely on the 28th as well, but there’s a chance I’ll be around. I think I’ve read Grouchy say his home course is Brookside, which is pretty close to us here.

I’ll know for sure the dates soon.. I’ll let ya know.

  10. Yeah G is in Pasadena. We’ll have to rally him for sure -what a cool foursome! Fore! (had to get all the 4’s in there)

Feb 28th is a Tuesday and forcast shows Sunny 75°/48° 20% 5-10 mph breeze out of the southwest

Where should we play? Moorpark CC, Malibu CC, Brookside?

I’d like to see Media play 27 at Moorpark without losing a ball :)

  11. 1) Move the Northwest. We have winter, but can play golf all year long.

    2) If you want a job that involves golf, then go in to sales. Preferably a “process continues” sales position. Then you get to take clients golfing.
I work in the (conctruction material) electrical supply business. I’m sure I played at least forty rounds of business golf last year.

The business golf is far and away the number one perk of my job.
    Great Blog BTW

  12. Nice blog, keep up the good work.

Here is another good site I would like to pass along.
    Club To The Green

    Thanks

  13. I live in Kentucky on a golf course. Check it out at http://www.boonestrace.org/
In order for my husband and I to keep our sanity, we bought a golf cart cover and propane heater for the cart, warm ups, hand warmers and we’re set. Now, we’ve had rain everyday for a week. I’m ready to get the heck out and GOLF!!!!
Come visit Kentucky – lots of courses.

    Hi Pamela,

I have to admit Kentucky wasn’t really on my golf radar. We were actually there and drove to Tennessee to play.

I checked out that link but don’t see anything about a golf course.??
